Calgary Stampede Grounds
About a ten-minute walk heading East on 25 Ave you will arrive at the South Entrance to the Stampede Park. This is where the famous Calgary Stampede and Rodeo has its annual event in July. In Stampede Park grounds are the exhibition halls - Roundup Centre, The Big Four, The Corral - as well as the Grandstand where you can watch horseracing and the chuck wagon races.
In the Stampede Grounds is the Pengrowth Saddledome, so called because of the shape of the roof resembles a saddle. The Pengrowth Saddledome is a venue to many pop music concerts and is the home of NHL team The Calgary Flames and local hockey teams The Calgary Hitmen and the Lacrosse team The Calgary Roughnecks.
Turning left after exiting the front door and walking down to the bridge, which spans the Elbow River, here you can access the bike pathways, which follow the river and then connect with the other bike pathways, which Calgary is famous for. Crossing the bridge and follow the pathway under the bridge which then runs alongside with the Elbow river you enter the inner city park called Lindsay.
They are many path trails within a short walk of Westways Guest House; you can find yourself in a wooded glen, follow a path up an escarpment and have wonderful views of downtown and the mountains. Explore the island in the Elbow River with access from Mission Bridge. These trails are part of Calgary’s renowned pathway system and we have two bicycles for you to borrow and explore.
