Property description

An Bohreen is located less than 30 minutes West of the Waterfod Crystal Factory 1/4 mile off the main Cork/Waterford Road (N25) We are a small intimate guest house and cater to those of you who appreciate the amenities of a highly rated establishment but with excellent value for money.

We are located at the foot of the Comeragh Mountains. From the dining room, with it's full glass windows, guests can look out toward Dungarvan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. We are in most of the independant Guide books along with newsper articles in Ireland and the United States. About half our guests are Irish who come from all over Ireland for the quiet and the food, both breakfast and the Gourmet Dinner. Many have returned several times since we opened only four years ago, and their big complaint is that "we spoil them rotten" That's why we do what we do, so come and get spoiled! Our ingredients are local and fresh, the Irish Salmon comes off the boats in Dungarvan daily, the West Waterford Lamb, off the rack, is from our butcher in nearby Kilmacthomas (raises his own), the Pork Loin Chop comes from Dungarvan, and the Duck Breast with Pear comes from East Cork. Dinner needs to be booked with the room if possible, but at least 24hr notice for dinner the first evening. We have a small but excellent wine selection. Dinner is €34 per person with no service charge.

Breakfast offerings include a Traditional Irish, which is not prepared until your bum meets the dining room chair. In other words it's not cooked the night before. We also serve Ginger bread Crepes with brandy sauce, and Free Range Scrambled Eggs with Irish Smoked Salmon from Cobh, and the eggs are from Welche's farm nearby. Ann makes all our breads and sweets (desserts), and are the finest you will experience, and some people just like a bowl of Irish Porridge with Baileys. What a way to start the day! Ann by the way received her formal training at the world famous Ballymaloe Cookery School in Shanagary, County Cork.

Additional information

We will gladly suggest an itinerary for your daily outings if desired. There is a lot for the visitor to see in this part of Ireland, it's still "Hidden Ireland" starting with a drive on the Old Coast Road from Tramore through Stradbally to Dungarvan. A Drive to the towns of Cappaquin to see the Monestary at Mount Mellory, then on to Lismore to see one of the most beautiful Castles in the Country. Admore, a lovely town with the best preserved round tower in Ireland, and beside it, St. Decklan's Cathedral and Oratory which is about eight century. The Ring Peninsula out to Helvic Head is also beautiful and is the smallest Irish speaking area with it's language college. Dungarvan is a busy commercial town with lots of pubs and tradtional music. During the Summer months there are "Sesiuns" which are like a mini River Dance. We have lots of walking in Waterford, some of it right outside our hall door, you can get three to four miles in anytime you wish, and don't forget to ask me directions to the Magic Road up by Mahon Falls. See you all soon!

Slan,

Jim & Ann Mulligan
