Additional information
Following are some key attractions on the North Shore only. There are too many attractions to list for the Vancouver downtown area. Please ask the host for additional information and assistance.
Grouse Mountain
There's so much to explore - just a two minute walk from Mountainside Manor! Mountainside Manor is literally the closest existing property to the Grouse Mountain Skyride.
Cleveland Dam
Walk across Cleveland Dam and look over the spillway below. This dam spans the man-made Capilano Lake, which provides 1/3rd of Vancouver’s water supply. This area provides an excellent view of the twin peaks of The Lion’s (mountains), the highest peaks in the Capilano valley.
The Capilano Salmon Hatchery
Marvel at the determination of the salmon and learn of their life cycle at the Capilano Salmon Hatchery. Open year round, but the salmon will be running from mid-July through mid-October.
Giant Firs
Take a hike from the Salmon Hatchery across the Capilano River and follow the signs for Giant Firs to find Grandpa Capilano (the biggest tree in the Capilano Valley, and approx. 1000 years old), and his two friends. Follow the river upstream to the viewing platform to look up the dam spillway.
Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park
Cross the Capilano Suspension Bridge, 450 ft across and 230 ft above Capilano River, and learn of the history of logging in the Capilano area. Watch a totem pole being carved; visit their excellent gift shop, a coffee house and a restaurant across the street.
Endless Hiking Trails
Hike all, or part, of the 46 km (30 miles) Baden Powell Trail from Horseshoe bay to Deep Cove and numerous other trails including some that connect Cleveland Dam, Giant Firs, Salmon Hatchery and The Capilano Suspension Bridge. Mountainside Manor is approximately the halfway point on the Baden Powell Trail.
