Property description

I'm a traveling film-maker who's spent too many weeks in other people's places. The long periods away from home are a career choice, but I always figured that it wouldn't take much to find a nest with that 'home away from home' feeling... I mean, just losing anything IKEA and filling in with a colorful Portuguese trivet- a warm Moroccan tagine dish- a Chinese lamp- a Persian rug- would do the trick! So, of course, when I fell upon 'le chateau', I set out to create that very nest - everyone's home away from home... including mine...

On that note, I invite you to virtual 'word' perspective on 'le chateau' - if I'm half successful, you'll feel that cozy air of intimacy, just as I did...

First, you'll be compelled to stroll through a divine Parisian courtyard, landscaped with beaucoup d'amour by our extremely passionate, bordering obsessive, Caribbean concierge... in the winter the same lush foliage is camouflaged by snow laden trees, while tiny outdoor lights twinkle behind naked branches, wound tightly around the wrought-iron turn-of-century arched courtyard entrance...

Now walk up that flight of stairs at the rear of the horseshoe courtyard, and enter through an arched oak/glass door into a tiny carpeted foyer... (In the winter, you'll love this heated alcove as you kick off those salt-crusted boots in a brave attempt to keep the condo clean and the fiery Italian housekeeper from waving her fists at you!)

Le Chateau, 4437-4, is one of the largest units in the esplanade complex, at approx 1,600 sq. ft. - spread over 2 floors - warm reds, baked pumpkin, adobe browns, rich oak trim and oak doors, greet your arrival, as you lean against the front door...;

for that added touch of 'coze', your tired eyes will be pampered to a welcome package featuring a bottle of chateau red, buttery croissants, wood fired montreal bagels, schwartz famous smoked meat, fresh fruit (seasonal), starter firewood (seasonal), and a designer bookmark listing nooks and crannies off the beaten trail - voila!

The main floor living room - features that much talked about fireplace seen on several of my advertised sites... as well, on those chilly winter nights, or those 2.5 muggy summer days, when you're begging to stay in, there's the large screen TV/DVD/surround sound/CD/stereo/VCR with its jungle of wires and remotes to entertain or numb your bored senses. All you have to do is reach for the bowl of popcorn and snuggle into yet another contour on that antique fabric comfy couch, infamous for snatching even the most crafty of guests into slumber land, right in the middle of company - !

Another magical salon moment, is savoring that very first cup of coffee as you sink into a large 1930's style velour chair, your eyes wandering off, past the balcony door, towards the faint mist that clings to top of the mountain, stubbornly resisting the warm glow of sunrise...

Let's move away from the salon to the kitchen- designed to make you throw intimate dinner parties, with wonderful conversations amidst great company. if you don't already love to cook, with the Provencal yellow trim, and fiesta dish ware, you may find yourself over your head in sweet oregano...

Let's quickly finish off the main floor, and walk into the bedroom/office in the back of the condo- the walls cheerfully displaying photographs taken by esplanade guests, as well as your truly. The double futon is as inviting as a regular mattress- so, that whole notion of 'let the guest bed be hard so he doesn't stay too long' hasn't worked here... but, you make new friends!!!

And, of course, the powder room, in lime green, delicately toned down with the hand-made cherry wood mirror and antique medicine chest, in ssame cherry color.

Lighting the ox-blood painted stairwell to the top floor is a bronze antique lamp, imported from Nepal (a matching 2nd one hangs in front of the main floor window that overlooks the courtyard)... AND, the skylight...

The master bedroom to the right is my favorite room, with a large queen orthopedic-sleep-until-3pm mattress, the light white drapes promise to keep the sun from drenching your cream colored walls all day- of course, the large balcony door and almost-floor to ceiling windows are absolutely no help... but, you'll have no problem with it! The view here is, also, of the mountain and the courtyard... enjoy the soft internal engines of the courtyard coming and goings as they're a far cry from the silence of suburbia, or the stillness of the country... when Montrealers fondly describe their city, the courtyard would fit the description.

The bathroom, with spotless white tile (courtesy of the lovely Italian), beckons you to lose yourself in long lavender baths, or just spritz off under a massage shower head between jazz shows, a mere 10 minute walk from the condo!

At the rear of the top floor, is a library nook, another cozy bedroom, plenty of storage, and, another semi-private entrance feeding you onto the main street across from a large produce store for that late night snack...

And that ends our little tour for now... if you're still with me, I'm honored that you've indulged me with your time.

Cheers, Charmaine

Additional information

Across from the condo, is park jeanne mance, and parc mont royal - i.e. montreal's famed mountain - you can hike, bike, jog, play tennis, join a game of sand volley-ball, pick up a game of soccer, football, hackey, or tai-chi.

Parc Jeanne Mance also has a kiddie pool area and sand gym area for kids of different ages...

In the winter, don't despair - the same park offers you an outdoor ice skating rink, snoe shoeing, cross country skiing, and for the young thrill-seekers - tobogganning.

Right smack in the middle of the plateau sector of montreal, you're-

1) a 10 minute walk to the jazz fest at the bottom of St. Urbain or to the comedy fest at St. Denis and Sherbrooke-
2) a 5 minute walk to the grand prix celebrations at the corner of St. Laurent and Prince Arthur-
3) a half hour eye candy-filled walk to old Montreal to witness the Benson and Hedges International Symphony of Fire - or anywhere downtown, St. Catherine's street for a taste of boutique shopping
4) approx 10 minutes by car to Little Italy in the north, china town to the south, Westmount to the west of the mountain, and the typical tourist attractions of the Biodome and Olympic Stadium in the east end of the plateau.

If you're in the plateau - you're in MONTREAL - the Paris of the North - you're sipping an european coffee with the artists and writers, you're shopping with the entrepreneurs and adventurers, you're visiting with the culture mavens and history buffs, and you're discussing politics in french and english to a bilingual melting pot.
