Property description
Fendalton House is a colonial style house built in 1940. I have added to it over my years here to accommodate my family and later to add bathrooms for each of the bedrooms. It is a comfortable and spacious family home, with a sunny conservatory canopied by grapevines. There are three upstairs bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. The house is well insulated and heated to keep us warm in the crisp Christchurch winters.
The house is set in an attractive established garden with a solar heated swimming pool and a hot spa (jacuzzi). You can wander down to the bottom of the garden and feed the ducks in the Wairarapa Stream, take a canoe (I have two) and paddle down to Mona Vale Gardens, or borrow the bicycles and cycle round our lovely town.
You will be staying in the beautiful leafy suburb of Fendalton - one of Christchurch's most sought-after areas - which features lovely established gardens and beautiful old homes.
We are a convenient fifteen minutes drive from the airport, and five minutes from the city centre and are within easy walking distance of the lovely public gardens of Mona Vale. If you enjoy walking you can pass through Mona Vale, then the open space of Hagley Park to reach the city centre within half an hour. In the city centre you can enjoy the Arts Centre, cafés, restaurants, shops, the museum and Cathedral Square. If you are tired at the end of your day, the bus will drop you at the end of our street.
An interesting collection of old skis and other historical New Zealand memorabilia is housed in an outside room in the garden, including skis used by my daughter Kate when she represented New Zealand at the Sarajevo and Calgary Winter Olympics.
I also have a small and interesting collection of New Zealand art which is featured throughout the house.
Fendalton House is a smoke free environment.
