Raised above the papayas and bananas on 12 foot pilings for increased privacy, access to the cool trade breezes, and spectacular ocean views, including sunsets behind Niihau (the mysterious island), they are cozy for two Honeymooners or can sleep up to six on one king, two twins, and a sleeper sofa. The second bedroom has a pocket door which can slide into the wall for increased space. Additional information
We are at the foot of Mark Twain's "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," Waimea Canyon. Travel along the rim up the 4000 foot inactive volcano behind us to Kokee State Park (www.aloha.net/~kokee/), one of the last endemic Hawaiian Rain Forests, with its natrural history museum and 40 miles of hiking trails overlooking the canyon or the spectacular Na Pali Coast.
Captain Cook first landed in Hawaii in 1778 at the mouth of the Waimea River, two miles up the beach. The ruins of an old Russian Fort guard the river mouth.
The end of the road is a fifteen minute drive. There Polihale State Beach Park can be reached by driving through a cane field. This is a vast, empty beach with a cliff at one end where the nearly inaccessible Na Pali Coast ends.
There is a craft fair every Saturday & Sunday in Waimea Town, two miles away, and a Farmer's Open Air Market in the Kekaha neighborhood center every Saturday.
