Families and friends are happily accommodated in our 2 bedroom apartment behind the blue & white facade. A top of one Lisbon's seven hills, the apartment sits in the shadow of one of the cities famous 18 C' monuments, and adjacent to a designated shopping district, where the 1st Portuguese republic began with a throw of a grenade! Close, but not too close to all the central tourist area, you'll be happy to call this your home from home in Lisbon! This astonishingly original apartment sits next to the great white dome of the 18th C' Basilica Estrela, Lisbon's Sacra Coeur and further down the hill is the Prime Minister's official residence next to Portuguese Parliament. The adjacent parish, which boasts the opulent Lapa Palace hotel along with sumptuous palaces now acting as embassies, is considered THE best area in the capital. The lush outdoor pleasures of the 19th C' French designed Estrela garden; the oldest in the city is only a two minute walk away. Further up the hill is a shopper's paradise, with select gourmet specialist shops, a very large food market and many highly revered restaurants. Two of the city's main antique shopping districts are also close by. The heart of the old city is easy to get to either by foot in 20 minutes or by bus or taxi and the antique 28 tram passes nearly all of the major tourist monuments in the city. Additional information
Sunny south west facing apartment is reached by 29 polished wooden steps and it is on the 1st floor of a blue & white clad 1877 building, so is not recommended for people with limited mobility. It is charmingly furnished with Portuguese antiques but has all the modern amenities for civilised living including a fast internet connection. The drawing room opens onto the balcony that overlooks the antique number 28 Tram line, an old-fashioned grocer shop and restaurant supplying that wonderful Portuguese speciality, spicy grilled split chicken, so the apartment lives and breaths the vibrant life of the city so please expect some ambient noise when you book this beautiful typical property. A car is definitely not necessary, transport is ample and taxis are cheap, but street parking is available if you can find a spot, due to privileged its position there is easy access to the highway that leads to Sintra, the Portuguese Riviera and all points south over the Tagus suspension bridge, so no need to get stressed driving through the city centre from here. Things to Do Close By
Soak up Lisbon life from the balcony, Azores pineapples hang from the grocers window across the street, the trundling 28 tram is the same that often carried the famous author Fernando Pessoa home up the hill. Drink your morning coffee by the lake in the garden while the Basilica's bells strike the hour, or have your own special coffee blend made up for you at the gourmet coffee shop as the locals have done for years. Try endless varieties of pastries, a different one for every day of your stay, even if it is a month! Become a connoisseur of grilled fish; even the French don't do it as well! These are a few of the small but precious pleasures!
