Property description
Located between the Marais Poitevin known as the Green Venice and the forest, not far from La Rochelle, our gite, very comfortable for 4 people or for 6 persons (4 adults and 2 children), is located in the peaceful setting of a small south Vendée Hamlet. The ideal base for exploring and enjoying the Vendee Région.
Ground floor: a large living room with a fireplace, good size kitchen dining/room, bathroom and separate wc, utility room. One double bedroom with en suite shower room (bed 1.60mt wide), tv and video/recorder/player.
Upstairs : a double bedroom with one 1.40 mt wide bed, one mezzanine bedroom with 2 single beds each 1.20mt wide.
Facilities included : Chimney, 1 satellite TV with english, german, spanish ..etc channels, 1 french TV, 2 video recorder/player, hifi, DVD player, telephone, games, books and video cassettes, free wifi internet connection.
Fully fitted modern kitchen, diswasher, microwaves oven ,full oven, washing machine and deep freezer.
All rooms have electric heating.
To enhance comfort for a restful and enjoyable stay there is :
- a 500 square meters private garden,
- a stone patio with garden furniture,
- a large outdoor roofed dining area with rustic furniture and a purpose built chimney-barbecue,
- private parking.
4 mountain bicycles for adults and 3 for children are available free of charge.
Bathroom towels, house linen, and bed linen is provided, the beds are made prior to arrival

Restored and modernised, the house is in a quiet village and makes a comfortable base from which to explore the beautiful Vendée. The house, awarded 3 epis for comfort and charm, is situated in the quiet village of St Michel le Cloucq, 5 kms from Fontenay le Comte, 50 kms from La Rochelle and the beaches of the Atlantic.
Situated in the quiet village of Saint Michel le Cloucq, 5 kms from the old capital of Fontenay le Comte, 30 kms from Niort and 50 Kms from La Rochelle and the beaches of the Atlantic and the islands of
Ré and Aix.
The village is on the edge of a large forest and there are lots of places to walk and cycles.
Less than 5 kms from the house is the River Vende wher you can fish and there is good fishing and boating on the canals of Le Marais Poitevin , better known as Green Venice.
Lac de Chassenon has a beach with supervised swimming, it is great for the young children.
The Vendee apart from its beauty is filled with historic and fine architecture, notably the Abbaye of Maillezais or the Abbaye Royale in Nieul.
Within an hours drive of our cottage are the sandy beaches of the Vendée, including La Rochelle, Ile de Ré, Les Sables d'Olonne and La Tranche sur Mer. If you want a change of pace then the tranquil setting of the Marais Poitevin, with its Venise Verte waterways are just 20 minutes away. For kids of all ages the Futuroscope theme park is an hour away near Poitiers, and for the adults the famous Cognac houses are within easy reach for tours and tastings.
Local facilities in the village include a bar, a ferme-auberge restaurant. The attractive Renaissance town of Fontenay-le-Comte is a short drive away, and this has a wide range of shops, supermarkets and restaurants, as well as playing host to an excellent market every Saturday morning. The beautiful port of La Rochelle is 55 minutes away with its plentiful shops, restaurants and museums.
