Property description
A Country Inn located on Orcas, considered by most to be the loveliest of the islands that dot the San Juan archipelago in the sparkling waters of Puget Sound. The Inn overlooks 80 acres of forest and farmland in the shadow of Turtleback Mountain. It commands a spectacular view of lush meadows, duck ponds and outbuildings with Mt. Constitution providing a backdrop to the east.
The inn is centrally located in beautiful Crow Valley, six miles from the ferry landing, 2.4 miles from West Sound Marina, four miles from Eastsound, the island's principal village, and close to Moran State Park. For those disposed to linger, there are many recreational activities: golf, tennis, sea kayaking, bicycle rentals, bird watching, fresh water fishing and swimming in the Park, charter boats for saltwater fishing, whale watching, cruising and sailing, fascinating artisans and shops, and many excellent restaurants. The proprietors will be happy to help in the planning of your activities.
Originally constructed in the late 1800s, the initial restoration of the 100 year old "folk national" style Farmhouse was completed some years ago. The ongoing work preserves the integrity of the original farmhouse while incorporating conveniences necessary for today's travellers. The living room boasts a Rumford fireplace, comfortable seating and a corner game table. The large dining room has a convenient wet bar tucked into one corner. There are seven guest bedrooms each with its own private bath and furnished with a blend of fine antiques and contemporary pieces. South of the farmhouse in our orchard is the more recently constructed Orchard House offering four spacious king bedded rooms complete with sitting areas, gas fireplaces, dining corners, breakfast bar with refrigerator and beverage service, big decks and full baths. These delightful rooms are similar in decor to those in the Inn.
Breakfast is served in the dining room, in the rooms in The Orchard House or on the expansive deck overlooking the valley below and welcoming the morning sun. Tables are set with fine bone china, silver and crisp linen. Every effort is made to provide a zestful beginning to the day: fresh fruit and juices, our own award winning granola, home baked breads or pastries and a daily main course featuring farm-fresh eggs and meats in delightful combinations. A wide assortment of teas and coffees are offered and are available throughout the day.
As the day ends, guests are offered a glass of sherry, a cherry fire, a game of chess, cards or Scrabble--a chance to step back in time and recapture moments of good fellowship.
The reputation of the Inn as the premier destination in the San Juan Islands has been firmly established. Chosen by the travel editor of the Los Angeles Times as one of the dozen most romantic spots in the United States, Turtleback Farm Inn offers a sanctuary for the discriminating. Susan and Bill Fletcher, the enthusiastic and accommodating Innkeepers, await your arrival and will space no effort in insure your memorable vacation.
