Property description
Luxury cottage set In 35 acres with use of large swimming pool with exceptional views.
La Grangette is a beautifully restored 18th century barn, completely independent from the main house, with its own private south facing terrace, offering uninterrupted views across unspoilt fields and woodland. The terrace is half shaded by fig trees and is equipped with table, chairs, sun umbrella and BBQ. There is a shady cobbled courtyard at the side. The interior is open plan, with the original beams, stone walls and cow manger having been preserved. The living area is stylish and warm, with a dining area and fully equipped kitchen including a 4 hob gas stove & oven, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and refrigerator. There is an open plan stair case that leads to a mezzanine bedroom with a 160cm x 200cm double bed. A double and two single sofa beds are available in the main living area. The bathroom is modern with a fully tiled walk in shower and heated towel rail. There is a DVD, televison, CD stereo. We have an extensive collection of DVDs that our guests are welcome to borrow during their stay. Use of the fabulous and uniquely designed large 11 x 8 m swimming pool is available and privately accessed from La Grangette, ensuring privacy for both the owners and guests.
Set in 35 acres of pasture and woodland, there is a large variety of birds to see including hoopoes, night jars, hen harriers and buzzards. From the terrace one can sometimes see the deer grazing early in the morning or in the twilight. We also have 3 resident donkeys and a horse that love carrots should you have any left over!
In the springtime the fields are full of beautiful wild orchids and in the autumn the woodland has cèpes, girolles and other delicious field mushrooms to flavour your cooking. One can walk or cycle through the countryside on many of the waymarked paths that start at the front door. We know the countryside and can provide maps and guide books. You can walk and pick up the ancient pilgrim route of St. Jacques de Compostelle which is no more than a couple of hours round trip.

Additional information
We are on the edge of the Cahors wine growing area and close to Bergerac and there are many local vineyards, which offer tastings. Our favourite, Le Vin du Tsar, offers our guests a small sample of its red and rosé wine. The bastide towns of Villereal, Monflanquin and Monpazier ,which all have weekly markets, are within easy reach both by cycle (an hour or so) or by car (10-20 mins). An hour’s drive will get you to Sarlat, Domme, Cahors, Les Eyzies, and Le Bugue to name but a few. Why not visit the pre-history museum and the chateaux of Castelnaud, with its medieval warfare museum including full size working siege catapult. Closer to home are the chateaux of Biron and Bonaguil, not to mention our own local 13th century castle of Gavaudun.
Leisure activities available locally include mountain biking, tennis, mountain climbing and walking. There are riding stables close by and the nearest 18-hole golf course is within half an hours drive. River canoeing trips are very popular and several local companies organise excursions on the rivers Lot and Dordogne. Eating! There are some very good restaurants to choose from in nearby Monflanquin and Monpazier, but we like to recommend our local, Le Café in the village square of Gavaudun - quite superb and a cut above the rest!
Markets, shopping and other stuff! As well as the wonderful daily markets in most of the surrounding villages, there are half a dozen large leading supermarkets (E.Leclerc, Casino, Leader Price, Lidl, Intermarché etc.) a short distance away (15km) in Fumel. You can also find other facilities such as post offices and chemists.
Ryan Air and Flybe operate daily flights to Bergerac Airport from London, Stansted, Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Southampton, Bradford, Exeter. We are 40 minute drive from the airport. Nearest motorway junction is Cahors & Agen at 55 kilometres. Nearest ferry port is Roscoff.
