Additional information
Built for William Manegold and his family in 1897 the Acanthus Inn was originally a single-family dwelling. To this day the woodwork on the first two floors has never been painted and many of the gas-electric fixtures in the mansion still remain. The architect, Jacob Jacobi, must have been very pleased with a commission to undertake such an exceptional home. He was allowed to use the finest quarter sawn oak and maple components; two fire places, seven sets of pocket doors, a staircase balcony, huge front doors and wainscoting which adorn the house. However, the built in china cabinet in a shell and cupid motif steals the show.
One of Milwaukee's finest bed and breakfast experiences.
The mansion has a 2600 sq. ft. ballroom on the third floor and when completely renovated will have over 10,000 sq. ft. of living space in 28 total rooms. This will include 7 full baths, 2 half baths and 8 bedrooms for our guests.
