Property description
This charming B&B accommodation is perfectly located in the picturesque Pyrenean village of Boussan, on a mountainside in the Ariege department of south west France.
Le Pic Vert offers a combination of comfort, elegance and warm, yet unobtrusive hospitality. We are ideally placed to provide a homely base from which you can enjoy the wealth of sightseeing, sporting and wildlife opportunities on our doorstep. A three-course dinner is served, on request, each evening.
We are twenty kilometres south of St Girons, a pretty market town and capital of the Couserans, a resolutely rural and utterly unspoilt part of the Ariege, which itself is among the least developed and sleepiest departments in the whole country. We are therefore able to offer an environment far removed from the stresses of modern life, with the only noise pollution emanating from the bells around the necks of the cows in the pasture below the village. That said, St Girons is an easy ninety minute drive from Toulouse airport.
Despite its tranquillity, the area is a natural playground, awash with opportunities for the sporting and wildlife enthusiast. We are on or near the Tour de France route every year, the GR10 long distance walk and its countless loops and offshoots are easily accessible (by foot if you wish), and we are 50 minutes drive from the Guzet Neige ski station.
Le Pic Vert is a traditional Ariegeois village maison, with shuttered windows and spectacular mountain views. Wood burners provide a cosy and peaceful atmosphere, with old and new co-existing harmoniously in the form of beamed ceilings and modish yet comfortable decor throughout.
Our large, light and airy south-facing guestroom looks out over the high mountains of the Spanish frontier. This beautifully presented room comprises a double bed and an adjoining private bathroom with bath, shower, WC and wash basin. Bed linen and towels are provided.
Continental breakfast typically includes a choice of fresh bread, croissants, home-made jams, yogurts, fruit, cereals, fruit juices, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and fruit infusions.
We offer superb home-cooked evening meals, combining traditional French dishes with favorites from further afield, always prepared where possible using ingredients sourced from local producers and our own organic vegetable garden.
On request, we can provide meals high in carbohydrates for those of you needing to recover from, or prepare for, a full day's excursion in the mountains. Vegetarian meals are also available on request.
Dinner is 18€ per person - three courses with a bottle of wine and tea or coffee included.
At Le Pic Vert, we actively encourage and promote environmentally-aware practices to sustain and enhance the beauty of the Couserans. We take the following steps to 'do our bit':
We use energy-efficient light bulbs throughout our house.
We compost and recycle everything we can.
We use only recycled paper/stationery.
The food and drink that we serve is all, wherever possible, sourced locally.
We use only organic vegetables.
Our vegetable garden is irrigated solely from fresh and collected rainwater.
We provide maps and timetables for guests using public transport during their stay with us.
We use only the most energy-efficient appliances.
Our WCs are fitted with water-efficient flush mechanisms.
None of our cleaning products contain bleach.
We, will, by Dec 2007, be partially powered by solar panels.
Guests can contribute to local environmental schemes, and towards the running of the Pyrenean national park, via us.
