In our Bed and Breakfast you will experience the vintage ambiance of an historic cottage circa 1860's, recently restored in character with simplicity and comfort. Modern conveniences enhance your enjoyment of the relaxed casual atmosphere. Facing East to the rising sun and moon across the water, Frangipani Cottage bed and breakfast overlooks the upper reaches of Mangonui Harbor. Sheltered from prevailing winds, it is nestled in a lush subtropical garden. In summer, fragrant frangipani flower outside your door.
Our Bed and Breakfast cottage is peacefully situated above Mangonui Harbor and Village which was settled as a whaling port in the 1840's. Today it is a busy fishing port. The owner's great great grandfather was a prominent early settler in 1840, owning large tracts of land including Butler Point on the eastern harbor shore. Captain Butler's original homestead and extensive grounds, including a whaling museum are open to the public by appointment. Our cottage is a classic reminder of those early settler days.
The world famous Mangonui Fish and Chip Shop, and excellent craft and gift shops plus information center are within minutes walk from your accommodation. For those who want action, an excellent Far North golf course with most reasonable fees is 15 minutes drive away. Enjoy kayaking on the harbor; book a fishing charter or dolphin watching trip; swim on gorgeous golden beaches within a few minutes drive.
There are many more stunningly beautiful beaches further afield, including 90 Mile Beach. The information center will enlighten you on all the attractions of Doubtless Bay. For those who just want to chill out, lazing on a deck chair enjoying the view and reading a great book is a good start. Or try a leisurely latte and the day's newspaper at a waterfront café, in holiday mode. Fishing off the Mangonui Wharf is always fun if not fruitful!
We welcome you to your comfortable suite with garden fresh flowers and handmade chocolates. For your convenience, tea and coffee making facilities are provided with a range of fruit and herbal teas and delicious organic ground coffee, along with toweling robes, sarongs, and hairdryer. In cooler weather you will enjoy the electric blanket on your supremely comfortable queen size bed.
The beds are made up with Egyptian linen, woollen blankets and feather/down duvets and pillows. Should you want to sleep with the doors open to the sea a mosquito net will keep you comfortable. This is the tropical Far North! Your room has a private ensuite with shower, basin and toilet, complemented with organic toiletries. On summer mornings, throw open the French doors to your private veranda, soak up the sun. You may even see the fish jumping!
In the evenings, enjoy the sunset reflections on the harbor and later stargaze into the clear black sky. Far North stars are brighter! During the day local bird life, tuis, wood pigeons, grey herons, and kingfishers frequent our ancient pohutukawa tree for your enjoyment. Adjoining your bedroom is your own private lounge with wood burning fire for winter months, TV, DVD and VCR and comfy sofas to relax on. This room also opens onto the same veranda overlooking the harbor view. Our guests have their own private car park and entrance to their guest room accommodation, which is serviced daily.
Relax and enjoy your complimentary Continental Breakfast in the warmth and privacy of your guest suite, or outside on your private sunny veranda overlooking Mangonui Harbour. We serve your breakfast to your suite for your convenience.

Off peak rates: US$110 incl GST per night with a minimum booking of 2 nights.

Cancellations
Confirmation of Bookings: Receipt of credit card details will confirm bookings. We accept MasterCard and Visa and require card holder's name, number and expiry date. No deposit is taken but these details will secure your reservation.
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations affect us significantly. Consequently we adhere to a strict cancellation policy which is as follows: Thirty days out, 30% penalty. Seven days or less, 100%. We will make every endeavour to re-book and if successful will not charge you. We recommend travel insurance.
