Bed and Breakfast rooms have different sizes with differing amenities. Each has high quality bedding and linens; private phone; remote control colour cable TV; fans; opening windows; alarm clock; radio; reading lamps; and individual temperature control. We provide some air-conditioned units in the summer but with the highest night time average temperature of 10 C in August, air-conditioners are more a decorative feature than necessity. Some rooms have sofas, desks; VCRs; incredible views; whirlpool soaker tubs; and, decorative fireplaces.
Located in the centre of the historic properties, we are within a five to ten minute walking radius of just about everything:

GEO Center
This is a world class facility. You would pass it by and not notice because it is mostly underground apart from the entry level.
Signal Hill
Cabot Tower is a must see. The entire City is laid out before you and Cape Spear to the Southeast which is the most easterly point of land in North America. Cab up and walk back.
Federal Interpretation Centre
The Federal Interpretation Centre (half way up) at Signal Hill features an excellent audiovisual presentation on the history of Newfoundland. During the summer season there are guided walking tours.
The St. John’s Haunted Hike
Every Sunday to Thursday evening at 9:30 departing from the stone steps of the Anglican Cathedral on Church Hill. The cost is a mere $5 per soul, with no need to book in advance. The Hike lasts an hour and quarter and is suitable for ages 8 and above. For more information visit or phone 709-685-3444, if you dare.

Salmonier Nature Park
The layout of the Park is based on a nature walk. The animals are in large natural enclosures scattered along the 100% boardwalk park trail. Aside from the 40 hectares of the park containing the nature trails and animal displays, there is an additional 1415 hectares which is undeveloped. This area, which abuts the Avalon Wilderness Reserve, includes mature boreal forest, barrens, peatlands and the headwaters of Salmonier River. Within the park, 84 species of birds, 15 species of mammals and over 170 species of vascular plants have been recorded. The area affords splendid opportunities for field research in a well protected and managed environment.
Bell Island's Mine Museum and Underground Tour
Once the world's largest Submarine Iron Ore Mine, some 3 miles out under the ocean. Short 20 minute ferry ride from Portugal Cove to Bell Island +/- $5 including car.
