LE VIOTTOLE
Le Viottole, like so many Tuscan properties, is a large country side house surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and cypresses. In the foreground and beyond, wooded slopes and picturesque villages, such as the medieval village of Montecarlo. Le Viottole is a peaceful place, totally unspoiled; it retains its slow tempo and traditional way of life. It has been home for generations of Tuscan families who still cultivate the surrounding land and produce wine. Access to Le Viottole is by narrow, winding, asphalt road from Altopascio. There are excellent restaurants nearby, one in the village of Montecarlo. The countryside surrounding Le Viottole, is a delight and there are pleasant walks into the woods and across the hillside. Bikes are available upon request. Comfortable sun loungers and picnic tables are by the house and the views are magnificent. Le Viottole is an ideal base for you to discover Tuscany or simply to sit and relax with a good glass of wine. It is conveniently located near all the major attractions and towns of Tuscany (only 25 minutes away by car from Lucca, 40 minutes away by car from Florence, Pisa, Pistoia, the coast and approximately 90 minutes away from Siena).

Entrance to this spacious property is made from a private garden directly through the terrace, on the original stone staircase. The door leads straight into a large comfortably furnished living room. There is a separate large kitchen dining room with original stone fireplace and an old farmhouse table and chairs.

NOTES ON ACCOMODATION
The properties all have central heating and gas and electricity is included in the price. Crisp white Egyptian cotton sheets and towels (not beach towels) are included. The property has been traditionally refurbished, to make for a most pleasant holiday for all of the family.
OUTSIDE
Getting there
By air it is an easy journey to the Pisa or Florence airport. It takes less than a couple of hours from London or Paris. The Pisa and Florence airports are quite small and you pass through the formalities quickly. British Airways, Ryanair, Thompson Air and Easy Jet all service Pisa on a regular basis and cheap flights are readily available from London. From Pisa airport to Lucca is approx 25 mins by motorway with a further picturesque 25mins journey to Le Viottole.
COAST/ BEACH
Viareggio and the posh enclave of Forte dei Marmi is one of the most famous and traditional seaside resorts in Tuscany (the so-called Versilia coast). If you take the highway route A12, it is only a 40 minute drive from Le Viottole. The beaches, excellent cuisine and bustling bars and discos make it a favourite destination for Italians and foreigners alike. Viareggio founded as a fishing village in the 12th century, it is now an important port where prestigious yachts are built in its dockyards. Forte dei Marmi is sheltered by dense pine forests to the north and offers miles of beach establishments, bars, restaurants and shops along its coastline.
THE SURROUNDINGS
The whole area is rich in historic and cultural interest. The charming city of Lucca – approx 25 mins by car, retains elements of its age and history amid its many churches, imposing palaces and in the secluded squares one finds sophisticated shops and restaurants. The Garfagnana area - approx 45 mins by car – is a secluded area with wonderful mountains and rivers. Fine food is served in several hamlets, such as Barga and Bagni di Lucca. The spectacular marble quarries of Massa Carrara, which provided Michelangelo with the materials for his artwork are only 40 mins by car.
Florence by car - 40 mins. The train makes it easily accessible from Lucca - recommended as parking can be tiresome.
FOOD AND WINE
The closest shops, not far by car, are located in Altopascio and Montecarlo (approx 10 minutes by car) where you can purchase fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and there are renowned bakers - fresh bread and yummy focaccias, etc. There is also a bank and a post office. If you want the supermarket, the big Esselunga and Carrefour are on the road to Lucca - 10 mins from Le Viottole. There are numerous restaurants in the surrounding area - all very well priced and the local wine is so inexpensive, since Le Viottole is located in the midst of the vineyards of Fattoria del Teso (wine tasting visits at the Fattoria del Teso - the largest wine producer of the area - may be arranged upon request).

The balance being paid 3 weeks prior to commencement of the holiday. A separate refundable breakage deposit is required of Euro 200 at the time of paying the balance.
