Property description
Built in 1880, with the original carriage house on the grounds, this outrageous purple victorian "painted lady" is in the heart of historic downtown Napa. Built by prominent founding family member Nathan Coombs, it has been eccentrically decorated by subsequent owners for over a hundred years! Enjoy our enchanted forest from the spacious veranda which is equipped with ceiling fans, rocking chairs and a gas stove. A Japanese garden surrounds the redwood gazebo, perfect for an afternoon winetasting. Harvest a light lunch from the organic vegetable and herb gardens. You'll have to fight the squirrels for the walnuts, but you can make fresh orange juice from the abundant year-round fruit. Parking for 2 cars is provided in the driveway.
Both guestrooms come with luxurious linens, towels, and robes. Our largest guest bedroom, with queen-sized iron bed and plush Simmons Beautyrest mattress, is the Bordello Room, so-named for the antique velvet wallpaper reminiscent of the wild, wild west. The Yellow Rose Room, with queen Sealy Posturpedic pillowtop mattress, is decorated with French Provincial furniture and brass headboard. A library of books awaits a lazy afternoon on the wisteria-covered porch. Enjoy english style cottage garden views from every room. Pick a souvenir bouquet of rosemary from our herb garden.
The upstairs bathroom has an antique, clawfoot tub and Monet-inspired mural. Indulge yourself with a champagne bubble bath overlooking a garden view. Downstairs is a formal dining room and salon with gas fireplace, TV/DVD and a second bathroom with shower.
In our kitchen, maple cabinets and antique chairs surround a cozy table for 4. Our 1930's Wedgewood stove is currently being restored to its former glory and should be up and running this spring. The refrigerator, microwave, crockpot, coffeemaker and toaster oven should suffice, in the meantime, for simple meals. There is also an outdoor gas barbeque grill which has a side burner for the tea kettle or a saucepan. We get by very well with the Alexis Cafe-Bakery across the street and don't mind having an excuse not to cook! Local artist Peri Pfenninger has just put the finishing touches on the Tuscan sunset on the kitchen walls and ceiling.
The house has been upgraded with central air conditioning and heating with an electronic air filter. Our new tankless water heater provides unlimited hot water. The "fainting room" upstairs serves as an office with a color printer and free high speed internet.
