Additional information

Karterados beach apartments are 100 metres from Karterados beach, which is a quiet black sand beach with unusual cliff formations and very clean and safe waters for swimming. There are 2 typical Greek tavernas on the beach, where one can enjoy freshly caught fish and traditional Greek food.It is ideal for those looking for an authentic and unspoilt location on Santorini.
Monolithos beach, which is the islands best family beach because of its warm, shallow waters and fine sand, is only a 10 minute walk along from Karterados beach. Here there are 2 more traditional tavernas and a small shop and there is a childrens play area right on the beach and plenty of trees for shelter from the hot sun. From here there is a local bus into the busy town of Fira, with its many shops, bars, clubs and restaurants. The bus ride only takes 5 minutes.
In Fira, the capital town, there are lots of things to do, like taking a mule ride down to the old port, from where small boats sail across to the volcano, thermal springs and the small island of Thirassia in the famous caldera bay. One can also experience the cable car ride, or walk up the 275 steps, if you have lots of energy !
There are many different types of museums in Fira - the Pre-historic Fira museum houses all of the finds and wall paintings from the famous "Pompeii " of the Aegean - the Minoan archaeological site of Akrotiri and there is also a Folklore museum, an archaeological museum and the Megaro Gyzi museum, which has a display of very old manuscripts and photographs displaying the islands history.
The busy beach of Kamari is only a 10 minute drive from Karterados. This beach is lined with umbrellas, tavernas and snack bars and there are many interesting shops too. There are an abundance of water sports and there is an open-air cinema and a closed cinema and a small bowling alley and childrens play area.Nearby there is horse-riding and a Go-Kart track.
At the top of Mesa Vouno mountain is perched the archaeological site of the Dorian ruins of Ancient Thira. There is also a fantastic birds-eye view of the island and across to the neighbouring islands.
From here, there is a footpath across the mountain to the monastery of Profitis Ilias and also down to Perissa beach - a 7 kilometre stretch of black sand, where there are beach bars, tavernas, water sports and a water park.
Many different types of wine are produced on Santorini and visitors may taste the varieties at several wineries around the island, where they can even help tread the grapes at the right time of year ! There are wine museums at some of the wineries, slide-shows of the wine making, guided tours , wine tasting and Greek nights with traditional dancing.
The staff at Karterados Beach Apartments can book and issue tickets for guided boat trips to the volcano, hot springs, Thirassia island and Oia village or for a romantic sunset cruise around the caldera bay. Also there are many different guided bus tours around Santorini, visiting the traditional villages, wineries, beaches and tourist sights.
The Greek / English owners will also assist with a car or scooter rental.
