Property description
We 've chosen this house (bought in October 2002) for our children and ourselves, to spend part of our holidays. Nice, in a very quiet place, yet not isolated, a preserved area, with a nice view over the countryside, surrounded by fields (horses and various cultures), woods on the other side of the river, a terrace facing south, a functional house, spacious, with enough room for friends and family.
THE OUTSIDE
It's an old typical stone-house, called “longère†(part of the stones is no more visible, due to the extension added about ten years ago). It’s nicely restored, as we want it to fit our tastes and to be as functional as possible.
The garden is about 900 m², located on the sides of the houses mainly, and also on the front, with the terrace facing south. Typical flowers from Brittany : the "hortensias" and the blue “agapanthes", so marvelous when in bloom. Brand-new lawn, flower bushes, and trees as well. Space to park the car. The little road at the front of the house is used only by the people living in the area (cul -de- sac), so it is really very quiet and safe for children (and there's a fence along most of it). Parasol, garden furniture, chairs, sun beds ).
The house is at the top of a small hill, the scenery is : fields, a wood on the other side of the river valley, churchspires far away, trees.. The neighbours are not far, three or four houses nearby, the nearest about 200 meters away, but you can’ t really see them.
THE INSIDE OF THE HOUSE
We did all the necessary restoration and decoration in 2003. Spacious accommodation, 2 bedrooms plus convertible sofa in the sitting-room, number of people limited to 7.
GENERAL LAYOUT
living-room, sitting room, bathroom(shower) with toilets, two bedrooms and a large landing on the first floor.
IN DETAIL:
-on the GROUND FLOOR, you directly enter the living-room , a large room with a fitted kitchen on one side and a "counter", plus a large table, a big cupboard, all the necessary equipment for cooking: a large modern fridge with a freezer , sink, new gas cooker and electric oven, plus an (old) dishwasher and a washing-machine. Also an electric kettle, a coffee-machine, a mixer…All the china for 7 people. A lot of space to store your own shopping.
Another large room: the sitting-room, fitted with a convertible sofa bed (130cm wide) armchairs...in front of a pleasant fireplace (with fireguard), a French window leading to the garden, and a window to the North. Warm colours, quality furniture , cosy atmosphere, many table lamps.… This sitting-room can be used as a bedroom if you prefer, as the living-room is nice and large enough .
The bathroom: functional, tiled, with a shower-cabin, and a heater /towel dryer...Toilets
UPSTAIRS: a nice staircase will lead you upstairs, to the large landing: a desk, a nice space to rest, read, play games… attic window, lamps…
On one side you have the largest bedroom (about 25 meters squared, less if you are tall !, with wooden paneling, it looks like a chalet! A king-sized bed (160 cm wide), and wooden shelves, plus storage units, bed carpets, and a nice large attic window. This is the “ Japanese†bedroom ( mauve, pink, fuschia are the colours chosen)
In the second room, quite large too, you have a double bed (140cm wide) plus a sofa , that can be turned into a bed; large wardrobe , armchair,…; two attic windows . This is the “Green†bedroom.
So you have the choice between single and double beds. Both rooms are nicely decorated, with a great attention to the quality of the linen provided. All mattresses are new.
The electricity of the whole house has been completely renovated to comply with the strictest requirements. and you will have a lot of plugs (TV plug upstairs too). Electric heating . Smoke detectors.

OUR HOUSE IN “Côtes d’Armorâ€
LOCATION: In BRITTANY, in the Département of "LES COTES D'ARMOR".
Cultural areas: "TREGOR", and “GOELOâ€
The house is ideally situated to visit this part of the beautiful "COTES D'ARMOR". It is indeed located near:
-the castle of "La roche -Jagü" and its beautiful park, (free entrance to the gardens), a few minutes' walk away
-the beautiful river Trieux, and its preserved surroundings (you can walk down to the river from the house, and follow the riverside to Pontrieux )
-the lovely little town of PONTRIEUX, a historical place well-known for its festivals celebrating the places where women used to do their washing by the river, and for the steam train linking the sailing harbour to the city of PAIMPOL on the coast, providing on the way nice views over the TRIEUX river
-PAIMPOL, famous for its fishing harbour, its cockles and scallops, its oysters too, its nice touristic town center, its international festival of sailors’songs(beginning of august 05 )
-TREGUIER, an old religious city, on the river JAUDY, its famous cathedral, important market, monuments and little paved streets leading to the sailing harbour
-LEZARDRIEUX, fishing and sailing harbour where the famous and regretted French singer Georges BRASSENS had a villa (a beach was given his name)

- PERROS GUIRREC and the well-known "COTE DE GRANIT ROSE" (very special pink rocks!)
- the ISLAND OF BREHAT, a little jewel (so flowery and so much charm)
-the wild coast, and particularly the post-signed circuit leading to the site of "Le Gouffre" (the abyss)
-the SILLON DE TALBERT, a strange geographical phenomenon
-LANNION, GUINGUAMP, picturesque traditional towns
-and not forgetting the unique site of PLEMEUR-BODOU, with its "radôme", now used as a museum explaining the history of telecommunications(other places of interest in the area for rainy days!)
Sandy and rocky beaches : a large choice, to make according to your wishes and to the tide! What we liked most in the area, which is not to be found in many places: the variety of scenery, particularly with the tide amplitude.
The main town is SAINT BRIEUX (a 40 minutes’drive), several medium-sized towns nearby.
SHOPS: in Pontrieux (3 kms), a supermarket, plus various shops (excellent "croissants" in both bakeries!), chemists, doctors, ...plus craftsmen . PONTRIEUX is a touristic place, well-known for its old washhouses by the river, its craftshops; many festivities in the summer . Very traditional area for Brittany cultural events .
SPORTS: too many alternatives to enumerate them; of course canoe-kayak (river and sea), (club in PONTRIEUX)sailing, (club in LEZARDRIEUX and other places), horse-riding and golf, and others...Ask tourism offices to know more. Numerous walks from the house and nearby.
RENT:: depending on the season and holiday calendar. Ask!
