Beautiful house in exceptional environment in Aveyron, by river, limit of tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne
THE AREA
The nearest village is BAR, 4 km away, small but lovely location. Up the hill is BOR, even smaller!. The commercial village is 10 kms away, LA FOUILLADE. The famous touristic NAJAC is 12 km away. The house is located at the border of two departments, Aveyron, and Tarn, the river Viaur just at the bottom being the border (Tarn et Garonne is not far either) .It is a very nice rural area, still preserved, lovely countryside, a lot of hills and valleys, rivers. At the western-northern side of the Midi-Pyrennees region, the climate is not too hot yet, and the vegetation still green, so it's a great place to relax . It’s interesting to notice the difference between the cultivated land (and the fields for cows and sheep) and the sharp borders of the rivers, particularly the Viaur valley , the “wild†valley. Aveyron is named "the land of large spaces", because you feel you are , at last, having a good breath there! It is looked after by farmers who stick to their traditions (go to a local feast, or to market-places ).Except in a few places, you are away from commercial touristic sites and crowds . In our house in particular, you feel you are cut off from the world, indeed the nearest shops are 10 kms away ( two lovely roads though).
Our nearest neighbours (farmers) can supply you with some vegetables and fruit.
The river is not far (you can hear it a little bit) and you can walk to it and have a swim .(about 30 minutes if you walk all the way down to the river, but you can go by car to various spots if you prefer).
THE HOUSE
The house is a stone house which has been extended to provide more space, overlooking the valley; it's right in the middle of woods, very quiet, on a steep 7000 m2 land. You will particularly enjoy the garden, nice and shady in the afternoon, sunny at breakfast time. Also the conservatory, or the fireplace in winter in the second lounge. You can relax on the terrace upstairs, or have a walk in the area. A sauna will provide you with more relaxation if needed! Children will love the large woody land, to play and hide, and the small inflatable swimming-pool (with pump system). (Extra deposit for the pool asked, and maintaining it clean is under your responsibility ).

2 double beds (2 rooms upper floor)
one convertible sofa in one lounge middle-floor
another convertible sofa in the bedroom-bathroom on the lower floor
bunk beds for children (room lower floor)
Sleeps 10, but we limit the number of visitors to eight people.
COMFORT:
washing machine, dishwasher, small hifi system. Telephone. NO TV, electric barbecue, garden furniture. Full equipment for cooking, fitted kitchen, fridge rather small.
As it's our secondary home, we have decorated it to our taste, and want it to be well-kept and attractive.
The garden is looking nicer and nicer every year, we have a gardener as it’s a huge land to keep, with various trees and many flowers ( a lot were planted in spring 2005)
Books and information about the area available in the house (in English and French ).
A nice lady living nearby provides keys, can help for information and cleaning.

TOURISM
Nice historical places of great architectural interest to visit (old villages and "bastides", churches...) (for instance Najac, Cordes, Saint-Antonin, Villefranche, Albi, Sauveterre-de –Rouergue, Belcastel…)
Nice sightseeing, such as the "Gorges de l'Aveyron" or the "Viaur Valley", with its famous bridge.
Plus a great area for outdoor sports, like hiking, fishing, canoeing, climbing, horse-riding...Some places specialise in watersports : one lake 20 kms away, plus a very large one further away (an hour’s drive I was told), called Pareloup lake, will offer all kinds of watersports activities, including water skiing.
You will enjoy the food products made in the area , the quality and taste of the "charcuterie" (based on quality pork meat, also duck delicatessen )will surprise you. Veal is delicious (special quality label) too. Even the bread there is really nice; of course wine is grown in some places in Aveyron (Gaillac, Marcillac …)
