Additional information
Plaza Alvear (which many natives confuse with the nearby Plaza Francia) is filled with stand on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays for the city's most traditional and popular Feria Artesanal (Crafts Fair) that covers the space up to calle Junin. Here, products of varied textures and materials are on display: jewelry, leather, knitwear, candles, herbal teas, antiques, art and design objects (specially those with motifs relating to tango, polo and typical Buenos Aires images and caricatures), in addition to other products. Some of the Plaza's classic personalities include the living statues, clowns, jugglers and the tango dancers, singers or jazz musicians. Tarot readings and astrological services are offered in different spots on the Plaza. This large, grassy space, where the city's cultural activity is easily observed , is one of the most popular spots for young people and families, who sit in the grass to watch the various spectacles, relish in the sun and enjoy a pleasant afternoon outside.
