Puycelsi is commonly referred to as a « bastide Albigeoise » (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastide ) and is one of the fortified villages built between 1222 and 1372 to support the Cathars' way of life. It is a fortified medieval village overlooking the oak forest of “la Gresigne”, off the beaten path and perfect for authors seeking inspiration, entrepreneurs thinking of their next venture, wine aficionados who want to discover Gaillac, a region of France with uncommon grape varietals like Braucol, Duras, Loin de l’Oeil, Mausac. Located in the heart of the village across from the Town Hall, the home is fully restored to its authentic style of a stately country home formerly owned by a local nobleman. Fully furnished, it has 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, large dining room, large living room, TV room and easily accommodates 6 or 7 adults and has a living space of over 3,000 sq. ft. The mystique of the old stones with all of the modern conveniences (WiFi, AC, 52” LCD, blu-ray, VoIP for free calls to the US, completely renovated bathrooms, modern kitchen, ping pong!). Toulouse-Lautrec’s home town of Albi is only 40 minutes away, Toulouse is also 40 minutes away and Sarlat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarlat-la-Can%C3%A9da), one of France’s gastronomic capitals, is only 1 hour’s drive.
Puycelsi itself has a small grocer, two restaurants and two eateries. On Fridays and Saturdays during the summer the locals organize musical events.
