Property description

The West Wing Cottage is an annex attached to the owners’ main property but has its own entrance and garage. Also, guests can make use of the large sweeping lawn which overlooks Tor Bay and the open sea beyond.

Approaching the property up the bordered private driveway, guests can park in front of the single garage to the front of the cottage, or keep their vehicle inside. A doorway leads from the garage into the ground floor of the property.

Upon entering, to the left of the doorway is the galley style kitchen, with its modern white units and plenty of storage. Clever use has been made of the space to include a double oven, microwave and dishwasher, along with a gas hob and extractor to keep cooking aromas away from the main living area.

From the kitchen the open-plan living area features a dining table for four and comfortable sofas from which to enjoy the view out of the French doors overlooking the garden. With luxury furnishing including hand-tied sofas, antique furniture and a grandfather clock, every comfort has been considered. The living room is the ideal place to sit down with a good book, enjoy a movie on the flat-screen TV or listen to some favourite music on the stereo system. With the doors open and the sound of the seaside drifting in, you will feel instantly relaxed in your exclusive holiday hideaway.

At the far end of the kitchen is a hand-made wooden spiral stairway leading to the first floor landing. To the left is the first double bedroom, featuring fantastic views across the gardens and out to sea. Take morning tea on the Juliet balcony outside the French windows, which flood wonderful natural light into the room.

The bedroom benefits from a queen sized bed, covered in luxury linens and with sumptuous pillows, it all but guarantees you a perfect night’s sleep. The bedroom furniture is solid oak and has all the storage room you could need. There is also a large antique mirror in the centre of the room, adding to the light and airy atmosphere.

The large ensuite bathroom features walk-in shower, heritage fittings including Victorian style toilet and basins, and a large clawfoot bathtub with antique fittings. The bathroom is heated by an underfloor system and is beautifully lit by a skylight. If you get into the bath with a good book, you might not want to get out for a while.

The second double bedroom to the front of the house offers spacious accommodation and something rather unique. As you walk into the entrance hall, to your right is a clawfoot bath set in its own little vestibule, hidden by a curtain. With a flat-screen TV above and soft mood lighting, it is the perfect place to relax and watch a favourite movie or television programme.

In the room itself, a large window gives the room a light and airy feel. The large double bed, again featuring luxury linens and comfy pillows, dominates but leaves plenty of space to enjoy your privacy. A window seat offers another comfortable spot to seat and enjoy the views back towards Torquay and the hills beyond.

The impressive ensuite bathroom features a huge walk-in shower and is again finished with luxury fittings and heritage ceramic toilet and sinks. The bathroom also benefits from underfloor heating and a large vanity mirror.

The real magic of this holiday cottage is found outside, on the expansive, landscaped lawns of the magnificent garden. Guests can enjoy full use of the open space, and can enjoy the wonderful views from their private terrace outside the French doors leading from the living area.

A path leads down to the bottom of the garden and there are steps leading to the main terrace from where you can enjoy the incredible outlook over Tor Bay. Stroll across the manicured lawn between established flower beds and down the semi-circular steps to the lower lawn. Look south to Paignton and its traditional pier jutting out from the long sandy beach and north to Torquay, its bright harbor lights twinkling in the distance as the yachts bob in the harbour.

Guests are also free to make use of the private access to the rocks below, excellent for fishing or just sunbathing and enjoying the environment in complete privacy. Take care as you descend the steps leading down to the water, or you could just stop halfway and enjoy a drink on the balcony built into the rocks.

This is a truly magical open space, unique in Torquay holiday accommodation. This brand-new property is certain to become a real favourite with visitors to the area so don’t delay, book your stay today.

Additional information

Torbay has been attracting visitors in search of rest and relaxation since Victorian times when the phrase The English Riviera was first coined. In those days people came for gentle promenades along the beaches and coastal paths, a dip in the sea and to enjoy the wonderful views across Tor Bay.

Although you can still indulge in those very traditional pursuits, the English Riviera has moved with the times and fully deserves its long-standing reputation as one of the UK’s most popular tourist destinations. Nowadays the three Torbay towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham offer so much more for the year-round visitor, ranging from internationally acclaimed tourist attractions to its many areas of special scientific interest.

Whether you want a day out, an afternoon’s diversion, or just a great way to spend a couple of hours, Torbay has it all. Here is our guide to all the best bits, from those located within the resort towns themselves, to some a little further afield.
