Visiting Jamaica? Read brief travel information about the country.
Jamaica is considered by many the most beautiful of all the Caribbean Islands and is probably the ideal place for a tropical holiday. Waterfalls cascading to beautiful beaches, lushly covered mountains, exotic flowers, so many of the images combined here make it a place of an ideal vacation.
Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean home to Blue Mountains inland surrounded by narrow costal plain. The features of the tropical climate are hot and humid weather, although higher inland regions have a more temperate climate. The temperatures rise to 30°C (86 F). The rains are usually moderate and fairly consistent throughout the year.
African-Black predominate consisting 90,9% of the population. British colonialism has influenced considerably the main belief of the country which is Christian. 1 US Dollar = 67.64000 Jamaican Dollar
Most major towns and both cities are located on the coast. Montego Bay is usually referred to the center of Jamaican tourism and market town for a large part of western Jamaica. Shoppers will find on the island excellent buys in straw goods and locally made rum.
You can have a superb view of clear Caribbean waters – the main tourist attraction- and the long reef protecting the bay from Kent and Gloucester avenues. The hotels are found on coastline strip.
Negril is not far from Montego Bay and has a spectacular beach with four iron shore cliffs. This is the right destination for people fond of sailing, water-skiing, deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, parasailing and windsurfing. There is also a hectic nightlife in the many clubs that have, over the years, proliferated along the beach.
Ocho Rios, name of the town is said to have come from the old Spanish word for roaring river, is still keeping something from the sleepy atmosphere of small-town Jamaica. It is a famous resort for its facilities, accommodation varying from the international hotels to secluded villas and restaurants offering different cuisines.
One of the best developed tourist islands Jamaica offers you loads of lodging opportunities: seafront villas in Negril and secluded beach homes in St. Ann’s Bay
