Dominica is one of the youngest islands in Lesser Antilles, formed still by geothermal-volcanic activity. It is the most mountainous and the largest of the Windward Islands, with volcanic peaks, mountain streams and rivers, golden sands and beaches being potentially a major tourist destination. It boasts dense forests while orchids and untamed subtropical vegetation grow in the valleys. It is the home for many rare animals and plants.
The tourists visiting Dominica should be ready for hot subtropical climate. The period between May and February is quite busy but it is the best time to visit. It is providing bearable rainfall and hot temperatures usually in the 30-33°C (87-91°F) range.

The main tourist center here is Roseau, situated on the southwest coast. You can enjoy jeep safari tours arranged here for seeing the hinterland of the country. Canoe trips up the rivers can also be organized. The beaches are mainly of black volcanic sand, but there are several white-sand beaches on the north east of island.
The best hiking trails can be found in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park. There you can enjoy the sites of crater lakes, spectacular waterfalls and the world’s largest boiling lake you can reach after four hours of strenuous walking.
