Visiting Cayman Islands? Read brief travel information about the country.
There are three islands in this British Overseas Territory vibrating with color: coral reefs, bright orange frogfish, sociable stingrays and reggae beats on the street. Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac are the peaks of a massive underwater ridge discovered by Columbus in 1503 in western Caribbean Sea. Cayman Islands have long been associated with the history of buccaneers and pirates, who once established hideouts here. All of this is easy to forget as you luxuriate on wide, sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters that teem with reefs and marine creatures. Notable fauna on the islands are a few species of parrots and endangered Blue Iguana native only to them. Caymans nestled between Cuba and Jamaica are as Caribbean steel drum. The temperatures average pleasant from 75°F (23.9°C) during the day and 68°F (20°C) during the night from mid-December to mid-April, the humidity is at its lowest. The off-season registers temperatures of about 83°F (28.3°C). Quick showers are frequent during the period from May to October.
The population is a mix of 100 nationalities where 60% are descendants of African-European race.
The Cayman dollar, often denoted by KYD, is the official currency of the Cayman Islands, traded typically at 1.20 USD.
The tourists visiting the islands go first of all to Grand Cayman hosting the capital of the country George Town, a major cruise port. The well known attraction of the island is Seven Mile Beach on which most of the island's hotels and resorts are located. SMB is regarded by many as one of the best beaches in the world. Historical sites also attract visitors. As home to the Cayman Islands' capital and the majority of its population, a wider range of activities are available here. For example the black limestone spires of Hell, Mastic Trail, turtle farm and a hiking trail through the dry forests in the center of the island. Tourist attractions on Cayman Brac are light house and several local museums, we recommend to rent a villa on Cayman Brac and enjoy the secluded beaches here. The proximity to Cayman Wall makes famous the islands as scuba diving destination. Thriving tourism, resorts, condos, cruise-ship industry have sprung all over and you can count on every convenience.
